Tim - Country and Coast Construction Wellington

April 2020, I approached Chris for a job as an apprentice builder. Since starting at Country and Coast I have fallen on my feet taking lead on several jobs and providing a practical approach to tasks. I’ve also started to assist quantity surveying and quoting jobs off architectural drawings. I enjoy the challenges involved with home renovations, and I get a great kick out of delivering a high-quality product to clients.

Hobbies

  • Hunting, Fishing, Free Diving
  • Rugby, Cricket, Surfing
  • Outdoors and Camping
  • Building and Fixing things

Early Years

Born and raised on a farm in Hawkes Bay, boarding school education in Hastings before moving to Palmerston North to Study a Bachelor in Sports and Exercise majoring in Coaching and Management at Massey University. Whilst in Palmerston North I was selected to play rugby for NZ under 20s and the Manawatu Turbos. This started a career which conveniently coincided with my study.

Travel

Seeking a change in scenery, I headed to live in Hong Kong for 6 months to play rugby and worked as a kindergarten teacher, teaching about animals and nature. This was a very rewarding experience. As the confined spaces of Hong Kong caught up on me, I packed my rucksack and travelled through SouthEast Asia for 3 months. Following my adventures in Asia I went to the UK to visit friends and family, spending most of my time on the Gower Peninsula in South Wales.

Work Experience

Growing up on a farm meant that I grew up working from a young age, doing varied, practical and mostly outdoor work. Whilst living in Palmerston North, between rugby seasons I worked as Fencer and General farm hand in Colyton, Pongaroa and Bulls. I’ve also completed a large number one-off student job search jobs, ranging from gardening to home renovations.

Goals

I’m the sort of person that enjoys the challenges of reaching for the stars, and I find it difficult when I’m not working towards something.

My main goal is to complete my Carpentry Apprenticeship and start managing projects.

Other goals I have are:

  • Become a Licenced Building Practitioner
  • Start my own construction company
  • Build my own home
  • Enjoy living in Aotearoa
