LVL Hanging Bunk Beds

This was a small project we did at a recently finished architectural build. The owner had won a silent auction aimed at raising money for Wellington Free Ambulance. This gave them the opportunity for us to complete a small project of their choice .

Made from laminated veneer lumber (LVL) framing these bunk beds hang from the exposed floor joists above. LVL framing is stronger than standard 90x45mm timber.

One side is bolted to the studs in the wall while the other side hangs with the main support being utilised as part of the ladder

Each bed has its own personal reading light as well as USB power points for charging devices overnight.

The edge 90x45mm LVL was routed out to allow the slats to sit flush with the framing

All writing had to be sanded off the LVL framing as it wasn’t going to be painted
